TDS LIVE | The End of the North-South Game: Foreign Direct Investment in the XXI Century

Session objectives

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has become the most important vehicle to bring goods and services into foreign markets. Traditionally a North-South game, emerging markets today are receiving more than half of FDI flows, while their firms are also rising as outward investors. These changes, and the advent of value chains that directly link trade, investment, and services, especially in Asia, have created new challenges for the international regime that seeks to discipline FDI across borders, now including some 3000 international investment agreement complexly intertwined, with over 500 foreign investors bringing claims against States.

E15 Investment Policy experts and guests will explore structural and sustainable development concerns within the investment regime, including the role of the WTO and RTAs on FDI regulation in this world in flux.
