Director of International Affairs, Trade Policy & Export Control in the UK’s Departments for Business
He joined the UK civil service in 1998, after 5 years as an Economics and Business Studies teacher. His initial postings were in the then Department for Trade and Industry (DTI), dealing with telecoms regulation, UK competition policy, and the UK coal industry. He then spent three years with the FCO in Brussels leading on EU competition policy and company law issues. In 2006 he returned to DTI to lead a review of UK employment law, before a series of postings in the energy field leading on UK Renewable Energy Strategy, International Energy and Energy Security in the Department of Energy and Climate Change. He returned to BIS in Nov 2013 to take up his current role. He is married with three children.
